The New York Mets begin a big sereis with the Miami Marlins with a victory



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Friday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 5-3.  Verrett started for the Mets and pitched pretty well as well as the bullpen.  Jose Reyes led the offense with three hits. 

Verrett pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Hansel Robles won his fifth game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one and won his fifth game of the season.  Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and he saved his 34th game of the season. 

Adam Conley pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  David Phelps pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Kyle Barraclough pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two and Fernando Rodney pitched an inning giving up  a hit and two runs with two strikeouts. 

Reyes had three hits and an RBI, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and two RBI.  Wilmer Flores drew a walk, James Loney had a hit and two RBI and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, Lagares had a hit and drew a walk, Alejandro drew a walk. 

J.T. Realmuto had a hit, Miguel Rojas had two hits and Christian Yelich had two hits and two RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Marcell Ozuna drew a walk and Martin Prado had a hit and an RBI.  Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit.  Rojas, Realmuto and Yelich each hit a double and Yelich hit a homerun.  The Marlins had Rojas, Realmuto and Yelich each hit a doube.  Yelich hit a homerun and they were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base and De Aza was caught stealing.  Reyes committed an error and Cespedes had an outfield assist. 

In the first Cespedes hit a sac fly to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Reyes hit an RBI single to make it 2-0.  Yelich hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two in the sixth.  In the seventh Cespedes hit a sac fly to make it 3-2 and in the ninth Loney hit a two run homerun to make it 5-2.  Prado hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to cut the lead to 5-3.

New York Yankees win a close one over the San Francisco Giants



The New York Yankees defeated the San Francisco Giants on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched very well, the bullpen sprung a leak but hung in there.  Starlin Castro lead the offense with three hits. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up four hits and no runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a run and a walk with two strikeouts, Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman saved his 20th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Madison Bumgarner pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Josh Osich pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Sergio Romo pitched to two batters and retired  them both. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Castro had three hits and an RBI and Carlos Beltran had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks.  Chase Headley had a hit, Rob Refsnyder drew a walk and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit, Castro hit a double and the Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Refsnyder committed an error and Beltran had an outfield assist. 

Denard Span had two hits, Buster Posey had a hit and drew a walk and Trevor Brown had a hit.  Brandon Crawford had a hit, Conor Gillaspie had a hit and Grant Green had a hit.  Jarrett Parker drew two walks, Mac Williamson had a hit and an RBI and Gregor Blanco had a hit. 

In the first Castro hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Beltran hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the seventh a wild pitch cut the lead to 2-1 and in the eighth Williamson hit an RBI double to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the eighth Romine grounded into a force out and an error happened also.  The Yankees scored a run and made it 3-2 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  

The New York Yankees fail to sweep the Baltimore Orioles



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-1.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and Chad Green was good out of the bullpen.  The Yankees offense only had five hits. 

Sabathia pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  He lost his eighth game of the season and Green pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

Chris Tillman won his 14th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Brad Brach pitched an inning giving up a hit and Zach Britton saved his 30th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Brian McCann drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  Gregorius hit a double and the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Sabathia committed an error. 

Jonathan Schoop had two hits and two RBI, Manny Machado had two hits and Chris Davis drew a walk.  J.J. Hardy had two hits and two RBI, Caleb Joseph had two hits and Julio Borbon had a hit.  Schoop hit a double and the Orioles were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Hardy hit a two run single to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead.  In the second Castro hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the seventh Schoop hit a two run double to push the Orioles lead to 4-1 and that would be the final score of the game. 

The Yankees took three out of four in the series.  They will remain at home and begin a three game series with the San Francisco Giants on Friday night.

The New York Yankees win their third straight game



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-1.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and pitched well and Anthony Swarzak in relief was great.  Didi Gregorius and Starlin Castro each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Eovaldi in his return to the rotation went 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and a strikeout.  Eovaldi picked up his eighth win of the season.   Swarzak pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up no hits and no runs and he struck out two and Nick Goody pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Vance Worley pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.   Odrisamer Despaigne pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Donnie Hart pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Mychal Givens pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an RBI and Carlos Beltran drew two walks.  Brian McCann drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez drew a walk and Gregorius had two hits and drew a walk.  Castro had two hits and four RBI, Chase Headley had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Rob Refsnyder drew a walk.  Castro hit a double and a homerun, Headley hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Refsnyder and Ellsbury each had a stolen base. 

Adam Jones had a hit, Joey Rickard had two hits and an RBI and Manny Machado drew a walk.  Pedro Alvarez had a hit, Ryan Flaherty drew a walk and Rickard hit a double.  The Orioles were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Joseph committed an error. 

In the second Castro hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Ellsbury hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Rickard hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-1.  Castro hit a two run double in the bottom of the sixth to increase the lead to 5-1.  Headley hit a two run homerun in the eighth to make it 7-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have won three straight games and taken the first two of this four game series.  They will play game three on Wednesday night. 

The New York Mets squeak past the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 2-1.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he pitched pretty well.  The Mets bullpen was good and Rene Rivera had three hits to lead the offense. 

Syndergaard pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and an unearned run.  He walked two and struck out eight.  Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and retired him, Hansel Robles won his fourth game of the season pitching two innings giving up a hit and a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit  and he walked two.  Familia saved his 33rd game of the season. 

Jake Arrieta started for the Cubs and he pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Pedro Strop pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Hector Rondon lost his second game of the season pitching an inning and giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, Curtis Granderson had an RBI and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  James Loney had a hit, Neil Walker had a hit and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit.  Michael Conforto drew a walk, Rivera had three hits and an RBI and Reyes hit a triple.  The Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Rivera committed an error and Conforto had an outfield assist. 

Tommy La Stella had two hits and drew a walk, Kris Bryant had two hits and Willson Contreras had a hit and drew a walk.  Jason Heyward had a hit, Addison Russell had a hit and drew a walk and Miguel Montero drew a walk.  Arrieta had a hit, Javier Baez had a hit and Russell, Contreras and Arrieta each hit a double.  The Cubs were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Contreras had a stolen base. 

In the third a wild pitch gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead.  Granderson hit a sac fly in the sixth to tie the game at one and in the ninth Rivera hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score.   

New York Mets finally lose to the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Monday night.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 5-1.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  Wilmer Flores led the offense with two hits. 

Matz pitched five innings and he gave up four runs on eight hits with a walk and five strikeouts.  Matz lost his sixth game of the season.  Seth Lugo pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout and Erik Goeddel pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Jon Lester won his 10th game of the season pitching  7 2/3 innings giving up four  hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts.  Pedro Strop pitched to one batter and struck him out, Carl Edwards Jr. pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Hector Rondon pitched 2/3 of an inning and saved his 16th game of the season.

Javier Baez had two hits, Kris Bryant had a hit and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and three RBI.  Willson Contreras had a hit, Addison Russell had a hit and Matt Szczur had three hits.  Albert Almora Jr. had a hit and an RBI, David Ross had an RBI and drew a walk and Contreras hit a double.  Szczur hit two doubles and Rizzo hit a homerun.  The Cubs were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Baez and Bryant each had a stolen base. 

In the third Rizzo hit a three run homerun to give the Cubs a 3-0 lead.  In the sixth Ross hit a sac fly to push the lead to 4-0.  Flores hit a solo homerun in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-1 and in the eighth Almora hit an RBI single to make it 5-1 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two on Tuesday night and then finish the series on Wednesday afternoon. 

The New York Mets shutout the Philadelphia Phillies behind a brilliant Jacob deGrom performance



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-0.  James Loney had two hits and Asdrubal Cabrera had two RBI to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched a complete game shutout for the Mets.  He gave up one hit and one walk and struck out seven to earn his sixth win of the season. 

Zach Eflin pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his third game of the season.  Daniel Stumpf pitched an inning giving up a hit, Andrew Bailey pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and Brett Oberholtzer pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Jose Reyes had a hit and an RBI, Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk.  Loney had two hits, Cabrera had a hit and two RBI and Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI.  Rene Rivera had a hit, deGrom had a hit and Reyes hit a double.  Lagares hit a triple, Granderson and Cabrera each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Reyes and Granderson each had a stolen base. 

Ryan Howard drew a walk and Eflin had a hit.  The Phillies left one man on base and Eflin committed an error. 

In the second Lagares hit an RBI triple to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Granderson hit a solo homerun in the third to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Reyes hit an RBI double and the lead was now 3-0 Mets.  Cabrera hit a two run homerun in the eighth to complete the scoring at 5-0. 

The Mets took two out of three in the series and will head to Chicago to take on the Cubs beginning on Monday night.

The New York Mets lose to the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 4-2.  Logan Verrett started for the Mets and he pitched pretty well and the bullpen did a pretty good job.  The Mets offense only managed six hits and no one had more than a hit. 

Verrett pitched six innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins lost his first game of the season.  He gave up an unearned run and a walk with a strikeout, Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Erik Goeddel pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Antonio Bastardo pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Jerad Eickhoff pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Edubray Ramos pitched an inning with a walk and he won his first game of the season, Hector Neris pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two and Jeanmar Gomez pitched an inning with a strikeout and he earned his 25th save of the season. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Curtis Granderson had a hit.  Neil Walker drew a walk, James Loney  had a hit and Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and an RBI.  Juan Lagares had a hit including a double.  Granderson and d'Arnaud each hit a double adn the Mets were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base and Cabrera committed an error. 

Odubel Herrera had a hit and drew a walk, Cody Asche had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Maikel Franco had a hit and an RBI.  Ryan Howard had a hit and an RBI, Andres Blanco had a hit and Carlos Ruiz had two hits.  Freddy Galvis had a hit and Eickhoff had two hits.  Eickhoff, Herrerra and Ruiz each hit a double and Howard hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the second Howard hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the third Reyes hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  In the fourth d'Arnaud hit a sac fly to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  Asche hit an RBI groundout in the fifth to tie the game at two and in the seventh Franco hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 Phillies.  In the eighth they would add an insurance run on a wild pitch to make it 4-2 which was the final score.  The two teams will play their third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees win their second game in a row



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and pitched six strong inning and the big three in the bullpen closed it out.  Carlos Beltran led the offense with three hits and Alex Rodriguez hit his first homerun in a month and his 696th of his career. 

Nova pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and four strikeouts and he earned his 7th win of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts, Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up a hit and Aroldis Chapman earned his 19th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a walk. 

Kevin Gausman pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  He lost his seventh game of the season.  Donnie Hart pitched an inning giving up a hit and  a walk and Chaz Roe pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Beltran had three hits and Brian McCann had an RBI and drew a walk.  Alex Rodriguez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Starlin Castro had a hit and Rob Refsnyder had a hit.  Beltran hit a double, Castro hit a double and Rodriguez hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Refsnyder was caught stealing and McCann committed an error.

In the second Rodriguez hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Schoop hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the third McCann hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead and that score would hold up. 

The Yankees have won two games in a row to get back to 500 and they will play three more games in this series. 

New York Yankees salvage the final game of their series with the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched really well and their big three in the bullpen closed it out.  The Yankees offense had five players with two hits. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.  He won his seventh game of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a strikeout, Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with a walk and he saved his 18th game. 

David Price pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up 11 hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.  He lost his seventh game of the season.  Robbie Ross Jr. pitched an inning with a strikeout, Heath Hembree pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Tommy Layne retired the only two batters that he faced.

Dustin Pedroia had a hit and an RBI, David Ortiz drew a walk and Travis Shaw drew a walk.  Sandy Leon had a hit, Brock Holt had a hit and Bryce Brentz drew a walk.  Holt hit a double and Pedroia hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Bradley Jr. committed an error. 

In the first Pedroia hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Castro hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Romine hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 still in the fourth and Ellsbury hit an RBI single to push the Yankees lead to 3-1 in the fourth.  The game would end 3-1 and the Yankees would avoid the three game sweep.  The Yankees will remain at home for a four game series with the first place Baltimore Orioles beginning on Monday night.

New York Yankees drop second straight to the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch very well.  The bullpen did a good job.  Brett Gardner had two of the teams five hits. 

Sabathia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out two and lost his seventh game of the season.  Anthony Swarzak pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up no hits and no runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Richard Bleier pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Eduardo Rodriguez started for the Red Sox and he pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and a strikeout.  Rodriguez won his second game of the season.  Matt Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Koji Uehara pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he saved his sixth game of the season. 

Gardner had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez drew a walk and Brian McCann had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI and Gregorius hit a double.  Gardner and Headley each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gregorius and Headley each committed an error. 

Mookie Betts had two hits and drew a walk, Dustin Pedroia drew two walks and Xander Bogaerts had an RBI.  David Ortiz had a hit and drew a walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. had three hits and Aaron Hill had a hit.  Bryce Brentz had a hit, Sandy Leon had two hits and four RBI and Leon hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the third Bogaerts grounded into a force out and a run scored.  Gardner hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the third to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Leon hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Leon hit a three run homerun to make it a 5-1 game.  Headley hit a solo homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to 5-2 but that would be the final score. 

The two teams will finish their three game series on Sunday night.  The Yankees will be looking to avoid the sweep.
